Hibiscus & Soursop Tea is a herbal blend made from hibiscus flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa) and soursop leaves (Annona muricata). These plants have a history of traditional use and contain naturally occurring plant compounds that have been studied for their potential health properties.

Hibiscus is known for its deep red colour, tart flavour and anthocyanins, a group of antioxidant plant pigments. Research suggests that hibiscus tea may help support healthy blood pressure in some adults, although results vary and it is not a replacement for prescribed treatment.

Soursop leaves are traditionally used in herbal preparations and contain various biologically active compounds. However, scientific evidence supporting the health benefits and long-term safety of drinking soursop leaf tea remains limited.

Key Health Benefits

  • Supports healthy blood pressure: Hibiscus tea has been studied for its potential to help lower elevated blood pressure in some adults. People with low blood pressure or those taking blood pressure medication should consult a healthcare professional before regular use.

  • Provides antioxidant support: Hibiscus contains anthocyanins and other polyphenols that help protect cells against oxidative stress. Soursop leaves also contain naturally occurring plant compounds with antioxidant activity.

  • Supports cardiovascular wellness: The potential blood pressure effects of hibiscus may contribute to cardiovascular health. However, this tea has not been shown to prevent heart disease or replace prescribed cardiovascular medication.

  • Contains plant compounds with anti-inflammatory potential: Compounds found in hibiscus and soursop have demonstrated biological activity in laboratory studies. More human research is needed to determine whether drinking this blend produces meaningful anti-inflammatory effects.

  • Supports digestive comfort: Hibiscus tea can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet and hydration routine. Evidence that this specific blend treats digestive disorders or improves gut health is limited.

  • Offers a naturally tart herbal drink: Hibiscus provides a refreshing, tangy flavour and a naturally coloured infusion. Enjoying it without added sugar can be an alternative to sugar-sweetened beverages.

How to Use

To prepare your Hibiscus & Soursop Tea:

  1. Place one tea bag in a cup.

  2. Add approximately 200–250 ml of freshly boiled water.

  3. Allow it to steep for 3–5 minutes.

  4. Remove the tea bag and allow the tea to cool to a comfortable drinking temperature.

  5. Enjoy warm or chilled. Add lemon if desired.

Suggested use: Start with one cup and assess your tolerance. Although the packaging indicates 2–3 cups daily, the safety of consuming soursop leaves at this frequency has not been established. Follow professional advice before using the blend regularly, and do not increase consumption in an attempt to achieve faster results.

Storage Instructions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.

  • Protect from moisture to preserve the quality and flavour of the herbs.
